Exotic Cars Experience Walt Disney Speedway

One of the attractions that Disney has over in Florida that is slightly less main stream is the Richard Petty Driving Experience. Part of this I suspect for us over in the UK is that Richard Petty is a famous speedway racing driver and that is not a motorsport that is watched much in the UK as we tend to watch more of the F1 and smaller racing events.

The Richard Petty Driving Experience is a chance to get behind the wheel of a full on Nascar drving machine and take it out for a 8, 18 or 30 lap drive, for the none drivers there is the option to have a ride along experience where you get to be driven around the tri oval track.

One of the reasons that I think Nascar and speedwaydid not really took hold here in the UK is that there are not keen on their corners in the US, roads are very straight, nothing too twisty and the same is said for Nascar, there are only some bends because you need them in a track! On the plus side though there is the chance to open these machine up a bit and keep the speed up quite high.

There is a new version of this attraction coming and this is the chance to ride exotic cars around the track. Ok, this is not much different from the current experience other than other cars that technically are less powerful. However – and this is a big one – these are some cool machines that you get to ride! In the UK there is a big trade with things such as the Red Letter Days vouchers that allow people to get behind the wheel of a supercar and experience either the ride or driving of the machine that most only get to see on tv.

The price for this experience is not a small number though. The Nascar option allows you to be in the 600 bhp nascar car and to have a ride along starts at $99 which is not a bad number, the problem though is if you want to drive it yourself! There are 2 main options which is that as a Rookie or a “Experience of a lifetime” option. The Rookie experience offers you the opportunity to complete 8 laps of the 1 mile circuit for the price of between $450 and $550 which in my eyes is a bit seriously experience (approx £350). If you are feeling a bit more flush, then you could look at the “Experience of a lifetime” option where you get to ride 30 laps and get debriefs between shorter sessions BUT at between $1300 – $2,200 this is for the much more serious driver!

With the new exotic Richard Petter Driving Experience the pricing starts at $199 for 6 laps in a Porsche 911 GT3 (which are a bit more like UK prices), there is the need of course to have a driving licence if you wanted to drive but in the garage there is a nice selection of machines with them including the Ferrari 458 Italia the F430, or for the lovers of the bull there are the options of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570 or the LP560 and for the Porsche nuts there is the Porche 911 GT3RS, they even have the new kid on the block in the form of the Audi R8 which has been getting a lot of good press with people changing from the Lamborghini to the R8.
