Moorgate Villa, Highgate Park Florida

When we first went to Florida to buy a 4 bedroom rental home we stood on a load of sand and the only clue to what was to come was a road – later to become Legacy Park Boulevard and a few dump trucks, however the location just off Highway 27 and closer to Disney than previous developments was perfect. We walked round a show home and it just felt “right”. A great layout for all sorts of groups, whether family or friends. So began the adventure of home ownership in a foreign country.

As well as all the usual things associated with owning a home we had to find the prefect team to look after our home for us – after a few hiccups we think we have the best management company – they have been in business for a long time and they are always there for either guests or us.

The fun part was furnishing our home – (though my husband will dispute this) and I had a great time choosing it all to create my dream vacation home. That is the wonderful thing about a private home – each one has been furnished by the owner and although there may be similarities each home is unique – very different to the corporate look of a hotel room.

The first time we walked through the door to a fully furnished home  it was wonderful and each time we return it really does feel like we are coming home. Many of our past guests now feel the same as they have returned again and again – one family have had an engagement, wedding, first child and only missed last time as she was having her second child when she should have been in Florida – but they go out again in October.  I hope that you too have the same feeling – that you can totally relax and unwind and feel at home.

Over the years we have added to the facilities of the villa. Realising that just about everyone leaves their car in the driveway we converted the garage into a games room with pool, foosball, air hockey and basketball among the things to amuse the kids (and the big kids too).

Last September we extended the deck and screen out beyond the pool – most pools mean that you can not sit the other side of the pool – extra loungers and tables plus a new barbeque mean that you can spend all day by the pool in the sun or the shade. Add in a dip in the bubbling spa – bliss.

Future plans include adding to the planting around the deck area when we next go out – adding to the wonderful hibiscus at the sides of the pool. We also intend to get our paintbrushes out for some feature walls so watch this space.

I have become a board member of our home owners association and we are determined to make sure that Highgate Park becomes a community of choice. We have extended our play equipment and now we have our very own space shuttle, dumbo and perennial favourite swings as well as the usual play tower. Our entrance planting has broken ground in Florida and we have put in plants that can cope with frost, drought and heat so that each visitor sees it at its best no matter what time of year they go. My next trip I am sorting out the Christmas lights (strange in May) on behalf of the board so that that Highgate Park will really have a wow factor throughout the holiday season.

You are a person not a reference number to me and I never forget that you have lots of choice in Florida and I feel priviledged if you chose Moorgate Villa.
