Disney FastPass is an idea that was conceived by Disney but has now being used in slightly different ways by attractions around the world, unfortunately other atractions are using it as a way to make more money rather then to give everyone a nicer experience. The idea of the fastpass is that with the more popular rides the park knows that the queues for rides would be better for everyone if they had a set number of people wanting to go on the ride all day rather then people coming in lumps as this causes a large queue at certain times of day that is nearly impossible to get rid of, therefore they came up with the FastPass system.
It is the sad truth that where there are lots of poeple there are lots of queues and they tend to be rather large. On one of our trips to Disneys Magic Kingdom we thought it would be nice and quiet as we were going in September which is a quieter month and it was a Friday, it turned out though to be a holiday in Florida and so the park was madly busy and so there were so many people that it was a bit mad. On such days this is where the Fastpass really comes into play. You can easily be queuing for over an hour and a half for each ride and so in a day spend most of the day waiting in queue for what is ultimately only a 3 -5 minute ride and end up rather sick of queues and tired of standing, therefore make the most of these passes.
The fastpass system works by allowing a certain number of tickets each hour to be issued each hour, then on your ticket is a time to come back to the ride and then you can enter the ride via the special “FastPass” entrance that lets you walk past almost the entire queuing system. This helps Disney to make the main queue smaller as well as letting you not have to queue for so long. In each park there is a board that lets you know the queue time for each ride which is no unusual to show an hour or more but if you go round the park and collect a fast pass for each ride then you can save yourself a lot of queuing. In order to get your fastpass you need only enter your entrance ticket into the machine and you will be issued with your fast pass ticket, one fast pass ticket per ride per entrance ticket.
This is a great system that sadly has been monetised in the UK. It is a great tip to save time and make the most of your time in the park
