There are many attractions in Florida, there are of course the main stream parks of Disney and Seaworld and the such, then there are smaller things around and some that people would often not think of. One such thing is to have a try at a shooting range. In the words of some rapper “Guns dont kill people, people kill people” and shooting can been seen as an art like anything else as there is skill involved in shooting a gun accurately. I like many people of my era grew up with the start of decent shooting games on the pc (at least we thought they were) and so have always wanted to try shooting a gun or 2. At this point I will say that I have no interest in shooting at anything other than paper targets an hunting is not my thing although many do it, even in the UK.
On my first trip to Florida I kept seeing a sign on the Interstate speaking of a gun range, and after a bit of talking with the brother I managed into talking him into coming with me to this range to see what it was all about. The place itself was like so many other shops Continue reading “Shooting Range – Try Something Different In Florida” »
Disney FastPass is an idea that was conceived by Disney but has now being used in slightly different ways by attractions around the world, unfortunately other atractions are using it as a way to make more money rather then to give everyone a nicer experience. The idea of the fastpass is that with the more popular rides the park knows that the queues for rides would be better for everyone if they had a set number of people wanting to go on the ride all day rather then people coming in lumps as this causes a large queue at certain times of day that is nearly impossible to get rid of, therefore they came up with the FastPass system.
It is the sad truth that where there are lots of poeple there are lots of queues and they tend to be rather large. On one of our trips to Disneys Magic Kingdom we thought it would be nice and quiet as we were going in September which is a quieter month and it was a Friday, it turned out though to be a holiday in Florida and so the park was madly busy and Continue reading “Use Disney Fastpasses To Avoid The Queues” »
One of the less obvious things about going on holiday to Florida is the chance to have a different car! We have all seen the movies and it appears that all cars are rear wheel drive and slide round corners and that they are massive!
It is fair to say that many cars over there are indeed large and heavy and are less than great with regards to fuel efficiency but that said fuel in the US is decidedly cheaper than over hear. I therefore tend to try and get a car that is a bit more fun than we have over here in the UK. When selling a car hire in the UK travel trade staff are told to ask the customer what car they drive now so as to chose something comparable as people often tend to be price interested only as it is just another expense on the holiday.
As well as possibly wanting a car that is similar to the one you have at home you must remember (people often overlook) that when you arrive you are however many people PLUS Continue reading “What car to hire in Florida” »
Florida has many public holiday days that are a complete mystery to those of us that don’t live there. I remember going to Florida at the beginning of September expecting the queues at Disney to be dramatically less than in the summer (as they usually are in September) but only to discover the Magic Kingdom was
Having worked at Air Miles in the past I have sold holidays to Florida, I have owned and spent many Air Miles and I have seen how people have saved hundreds of pounds on their holidays.
One of the best ways for people with Air Miles to save money on their holiday is to use the Air Miles to buy part miles, part cash tickets. It was found at Air Miles that many people didn’t have the number of miles needed for a full return tickets to say Florida (about 6800 from memory) but they would happily use those miles for a saving towards the tickets. There used to be only the option of using your miles towards the cost at 100 miles for £5 which was a ridiculous waste of miles and only ever used by the business men that couldn’t use them quick enough!
However then along came the invention of
Having worked in travel for many years, including working for British Airways and then tour operators I have been rather fortunate in having been able to fly business a few times, an experience I could not afford otherwise, but even though I had been able to go in business I still had the dream of climbing those stairs on the plane – yes, the ones that go to that fabled happy place. It looks like an exciting place, what is up there? Why can’t I go up there? You get the feeling that it is a special party area or something, and I guess in some ways that is true!
Having in my past though worked for Air Miles had accrued a silly number of miles and decided I would use the for our honeymoon so that we could fly out to our honeymoon in business class Upperdeck! Continue reading “British Airways Business Class Upperdeck” »
On the most recent occasion that we were fortunate enough to go over the Florida we also managed to fly there with First Choice in their then new premium cabin. We prefer the option of flying into Sanford airport which is our preferred airport in Florida as it is a smaller, and so there id less stress and whilst it may take an little more time to get to your villa (10-20 mins more driving) that is much preferred over Orlando airport and the many lanes of traffic that you have to deal with. Sanford has a nice smooth
These are always worth a day as an alternative to
Disney. It is very refreshing. On site are various pools slides, for
all tastes and levels of courage, and in Typhoon Lagoon there is
an artificial wave maker _ exciting but perfectly safe. There are all
the usual food outlets so no need to take your own picnics. Every
activity is supervised and controlled by trained lifeguards.
This is usually offered as an “extraâ€
day-trip and is an interesting and different experience. We arrived
by coach and went to an alligator show. This was followed by a
trip around Miami harbour where we saw houses belonging to
movie-stars. Lunch in the harbour cafes was Continue reading “A Grandads Experience Part 2” »
When choosing a car rental agency in Florida, do not take the first one that you come across. Benefits differ and it would be to you advantage to compare the companies in order to find the one that best suits your needs. And that would not necessarily be the cheapest one.
It makes sense to check the company`s service record. Also ask about their policies and the way they make their reservations or bookings. In the event that they offer discount programs, check whether you qualify for this. Why pay more than is needed? Keep in mind that the premium clubs and discount programs come with certain qualifications and/or membership fees. People who travel regularly might find a saving in being a member of a specific club. Partnerships to other associations, clubs or credit cards companies might Continue reading “Florida Car Hire – Top Tips” »
The first few times we went to Florida we didn’t actually go to Downtown Disney. To be fair the first time I went to Disney in 1995, Downtown Disney did not exist really as it does today. It pretty much consisted of Pleasure Island. When we did take a trip to Downtown Disney the last time we were in Florida I loved it. There are shops galore, restaurants, cinema, a lake, Cirque du Soleil, The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and so much more.
Now, being a sucker for any form of Disney shopping I LOVED the World of Disney Store which is the largest Disney Character shop in the Walt Disney World Resort and indeed Continue reading “Downtown Disney – Disney Shopping Wonderland” »
