One one occasion when in Disney we spotted on the edge of a stand a CD with Disney on the front. As you can imagine we expected it to be pretty much the normal soundtrack music of one or another cartoon. However was something a bit different, it was the soundtrack to the Disney parade that goes through the main park, and we have to say that it flew straight into our top ten songs. It was played endlessly on our holiday and still whenever we need a Disney hit or a pick me up we put the CD on and have fond recollections of being their in the warm weather in the best place in the world.
Now for all you serious souls out there I wanted to offer you a link into itunes so that you could hear a snippet and buy the song but I could not find it on there, hence after some looking around the tinternet (have to love Peter kay) I found this video on you tube as an alternative which is someones holiday video of the parade with the tune over the top. The full Parade when you see it in Disney is properly choreographed with perfect motions for the tune. But this gives you a good idea of what it is like……. I miss it
When you start thinking of good things to do in Florida, one of my top 3 is Blizzard Beach. When you are looking for something to do in the Sunshine where you can still mix a fun themed day out with water then the place to head for is Blizzard Beach. The first time I went to Florida this was the place I was most looking forward to going to, where else would you have a water park in the sunshine with themeing that makes the park appears as if a Ski Resort. Disney say that the park was created when:
After a freak snow storm blanketed Florida in white, a ski resort sprang up with slalom courses, toboggan slides and iceberg walkways. When the weather shifted back to hot, the whole resort started to melt. What to do?
An enterprising alligator saw an opportunity. Clad in a scarf and hat, the gator slid down the ski jump, shouting “Yahoooo!” all Continue reading “Blizzard Beach Relived” »
Most people going to Florida will have heard the name ‘Ron Jon’s Surf Shop’ on Cocoa Beach. Now I am not a surfer chic or even a beach babe but I was keen to take a trip to this famous shop. It is about an hours journey from Orlando which my boyfriend and I undertook in a convertible in the burning Florida sunshine! It was a dream car with dream weather until we both started to realise we were starting to feel a bit ill from the amount of sun constantly on us so we had to make an emergency stop for liquid and ice cream refreshments!! Much better.
Arriving at Ron Jon’s it looked pretty much how I imagined it would, maybe slightly smaller. Lots of surf boards and palm trees on the outside and the same on the inside! If you are into surfing and the beach culture Continue reading “Ron Jon’s Surf Shop, Cocoa Beach and The Proposal” »
Going to Florida in September always raises the issue of ‘Hurricane Season’. It would in no way ever deter me from going to Florida in September but it did hit home a little more closely when I was on holiday there with my boyfriend and two of our friends and Hurricane Floyd decided to make an appearance!
We had seen reports about Hurricane Floyd and that it was heading for Orlando but being on holiday we just sort of passed it by. As the reports increased and the severity of the hurricane seemed to intensify we started to wonder if there really was an issue. I think it was when we looked out of the window of our villa in the morning and saw other residents of the estate boarding up their windows that we realised that this was actually Continue reading “Hurricane Season” »
We know that Florida is the sunshine state but when is the best time to visit there to get the most out of the weather? I have been to Florida at various times of the year and each different time has plus points. The first time I went was in August. The heat is really something in August and the humidity is certainly the most extreme I have ever experienced! Having said that I love the heat and the humidity. Without humidity you don’t get the gorgeous evenings where you never need to even think about jumpers etc. Even at 1am it is balmy and warm. Going to Florida in the summer isn’t for everyone but as long as you pack the suncream and hat, I think Continue reading “Florida Sunshine – When is The Best Time to Visit” »
It’s too hot! It’s too much walking! I can’t go on anything! These maybe some of the thoughts that come to your mind if you thought about the idea of going on holiday to Orlando whilst pregnant. Having ‘Been there done that’ as they say when i was 5 1/2 months pregnant i can say that i enjoyed my trip just as much as the times I have been without the bump.
Being sensible is probably the key to a happy trip whilst pregnant. Firstly, the flight. 8-9 hours is a pretty long time on a plane at the best of time but when accomodating a bump as well it can be a bit daunting. I found that as long as I got up and moved around regularly, drank plenty of water (this actually Continue reading “To Bump or Not To Bump – Florida as a Mum to Be” »
Starting to write this piece, the first problem I had was deciding whether I put this under the category of an attraction or a restaurant. I was torn but at the end of the day decided restaurant, you do eat after all.
Arabian Nights is described by themselves as:
At the exciting Arabian Nights Dinner Attraction, guests enter the magical world of Scheherazade, a young girl with a bigger-than-life dream of becoming a beautiful Princess. Two magical Genies take Scheherazade and her guests on a thrilling and romantic adventure filled with music, lights and daring acts where anything can happen, from a Continue reading “Arabian Nights Meal Experience” »
One of the fun things about Florida that people I think often do not think about is that it is a subtropical climate and this therefore means that we get some pretty cool animals about. Now there are a nice selection of some scary ones but they want to stay away from you in the same way that you want them to stay away. Some of the proper historical animals and beasts are out there and living in relative harmony with the people that live in Florida but there are a number of places where you can go and make the most of the animals. the screamingly obvious ones going down to the Everglades where we can all relive the romantic idea of climbing on an air boat with “Gentle Ben” and go charging off to see what animals you could see. For those wanting to Continue reading “Florida Wildlife – Its All Around” »
Florida evenings are quite special in my view. The evening for me is how I imagine I would spend so many of my evening if I were to live there but depending on the time of year that you go to Florida most evenings offer a pleasant humid temperature that means you can stay out all night in a tee shirt and enjoy the evening. Sitting my your pool under the fly netting means that you don’t get the bugs that you may otherwise be seeing around and you can just sit back.
There are loads of options for you to make the most of and so the decision is up to you. The last times that we have Continue reading “Florida Evenings With A Family” »
I was bitten by the Florida bug (not literally!) on my first trip in 1995 at the age of 16. A ‘Once in a Lifetime’ holiday with my family and three other families. Having always been a Disney fan it was a place of dreams for me and i couldn’t actually believe i was going. But go we certainly did (even though I had been diagnosed with Glandular Fever 3 days before we left!! Parents not too chuffed but didn’t spoil a thing!)
The first lasting memory I have is of the villas we stayed in. In the residential estate of Lindfields (ironic really as we lived, and still do, in the village of Lindfield in West Sussex) we had two villas at opposite ends of one of the many beautifully kept streets. One for all the parents, and one for all the kids. I remember thinking this was very brave and trusting of our parents but we were all good kids ranging in age from 15 to 18 so it worked out a treat. Our Villa was huge and I had never seen an open plan living area before but fell in love Continue reading “Why Florida? The Sunshine State but so Much More” »
