Disney Parades

Disney Parades are a huge part of the Disney parks. They encompass the feel of Disney and include a lot of the favourite Disney characters. The theme of the parades changes over the years and quite often they theme them to show case a new Disney film that is being released. There are characters, amazing floats, dancers and of course insanely catchy Disney music!!! Currently at the Magic Kingdom, the parade is ‘Disney’s Share a Dream Come True’ parade which sees your favourite Disney characters and beloved stories inside giant snow globes!! It sounds amazing and, like everything else Disney does, they do it 200%. The parade is held daily at 3pm (and is referred to as ‘the afternoon parade’).

The parade route is one of two routes. It either starts at Town Square and works it way to Frontierland or it begins in Frontierland and works it’s way towards Town Square. The more usual route is from Town Square where it passes along Main street, infront of the Cinderella Castle, crossing the bridge that leads to Liberty Square then briefly into Frontierland before disappearing through a large gate behind Splash Mountain. The crowds start to build up along the parade route as much as one and a half to two hours before the parade starts. To secure the prime spots on a first come, first served basis people are willing to stake their claim very early!! If you do choose to leave it until the last minute to take a spot then expect to be about 7 people deep and the view slightly compromised.

The Disney’s SpectroMagic Parade (or ‘evening parade’) takes place at about 9pm at weekends and week days during peak times. The principal of getting a prime spot along the parade route is the same with the evening parade as with the day. The SpectroMagic Parade really is a must as the sight is something to behold. Disney Magic at it’s best! During the peak seasons, Disney now put on two evening parades, one at 8pm and the other at 11pm. Obviously the late one might be pushing it for the little ones but if you are planning a child free trip then this could be the ideal one to go for as I would imagine the crowds will be far fewer than the earlier parade.

We have been to Disney a good number of times and we have seen a couple of the parades but on the whole, it isn’t something that I get too caught up in. I think you have to see one at least once and the floats are amazing but it isn’t something that makes our trips! In fact, when the parade is on, and the hour or so before hand, the rest of the park gets quieter and quieter as everyone floods to the parade routes to sit and wait. The ques dwindle and it is just nice to wander round without the crowds. I find it gave us some peaceful time to enjoy the parks and the rides. When we went with our little boy we did indeed to the parade at the Magic Kingdom because it is awe inspiring for kids to see the characters they love so close and on these giant floats but I do remember going to Animal Kingdom with him and we used the parade time to go to camp Minnie, Mickey to meet the characters and get their signatures and there were no ques at all!! We were very nearly the only ones in that part of the park! It was blissful! As I say I would recommend to see at least one parade if you have not been before but if you have and you aren’t too worried about seeing it again, use this bonus time to get some rides under your belt!!
